- Brothers, I have the hard responsibility to inform you that our great Todor is not alive anymore…
Those were the words he said, with a white, troubled face. His chin was shivering. Some of us didn't even realize what he was saying. Pancho Michailov as if a wasp had strung him and yelled: "What, what is Argir saying?"
- It`s clear - I said - Todor was killed.
In this moment the whole group was standing. All, as if standing nailed to the ground, and aghast. Pancho dropped to the ground as he was standing, started rolling left and right, shouting: "No, no Todor killed … Is it true? Who killed him?" He had a nervous breakdown. I yelled at him: "Come on, let's go they will tell us where Todor is. There is no reason to cry and weep. We can't change anything crying." I don't remember now if the other comrades said anything. I know that when I looked at Monev and Purlichev we shared silently that our doubts were justifiable. Monev deeply sighed: "My dear Todor ... "Argir told us that near by there was a church and Todor and his comrade were buried there. Then we understood that Pando was killed also. With faster steps we took off, crushed from grief and stress. All three people accompanying us, looked very worried. They clarified that the congress had given them the responsibility to tell us the bad news. That's why they appeared around us by the stream in the morning as if by accident.
I expected us to walk longer. Suddenly I saw in front of us a big field; behind it faraway Were mountain range showing. I noticed on the other brink of the field a small building - it was the church. While we were still walking through the reaped field, taking half of this valley, we saw people moving towards us to greet us from the church. They were giving us their hands but I remember best how Aleko and colonel Atanasov stood in our way in their uniforms with their guns on the shoulder and greeted us as well. They seemed hurt the most. Aleko even had tears in his eyes. Both said a few words to comfort us. I told Aleko: "What happened, happened, we all have to be strong and try to compensate for the loss with common efforts. Especially we, the three of us must keep the courage; you know well that all figures will seek for your support." There was no need yet to begin to think what manners must be showed upon the triad.
We wanted to enter the church and see the bodies. Everything that was a horror story yet, become reality in front of our eyes. Todor was lying in a quickly made from ordinary laths coffin; it looked like there was lack of laths, because the open space between them was wider than the width of the lathing. Pando was lying in a very similar chest. He was ugly puffed up. And Todor, who was thin, now seemed to be grown stout, and it looked to me embellished. We couldn't stare at everything in the church, because it was kind of dark. Odd moisture was hitting you in this small church.
It was said that we were called to see the funeral. The bodies had been already buried once, by order of Atanasov and Aleko, right after their murder. But after some delegates made remarks Protegerov had insisted, that we must be called.
